Yankees Drop Finale to White Sox, And It Might Mean More Than Just One Loss
After winning three straight in Chicago, the New York Yankees fell short losing 3-2 in their final game against the White Sox. Here is everything you need to know about their loss.
Aaron Judge hit his 43rd homer of the season in the first inning, working from an 0–2 count against White Sox pitcher Cam Booser
The Yankees held a 2–1 lead until the bottom of the sixth, when White Sox shortstop Colson Montgomery homered to center off Yankees right-hander Luis Gil.
Gil threw 5.1 innings, giving up four hits, two runs, two walks, and one homer. He retired seven batters and now has a 3.68 ERA on the season.
Ultimately, Lenyn Sosa’s solo homer in the eighth sealed the win, giving the White Sox a 3–2 victory over the Yankees.
My Opinion:
It’s no secret the Yankees can handle weaker teams, but they’ve struggled against stronger competition. Dropping even one game to the White Sox this close to the postseason isn’t a great sign.
Yes, the recent stretch against the Nationals looked strong, but defensively, cracks are showing. Volpe’s been inconsistent, Dominguez misfires throws, and Wells turns routine plays into adventures.
The next few series will be telling. With matchups against the Astros in Houston, the Blue Jays and Tigers in the Bronx, and Boston at Fenway, we’ll see if this team is built for October.
My prediction: Yankees go 7–5 and clinch the top Wild Card spot. But if the defense doesn’t tighten up, that run could be short-lived.
